Following a sudden heart attack, Scott passed away at home in Northfield, Minnesota on Monday December 12, 2011, at the age of 48.

Scott David Brachmann was born in Seoul, South Korea on January 23, 1963.  On August 11, 1971, at the age of 8, he was adopted by his parents, Kenneth & Shirley Brachmann and moved to Prior Lake, Minnesota.  At Prior Lake Senior High School he was an accomplished wrestler and saxophone player. After graduating in 1982 he joined the United States Navy.  Known to his SEAL brothers lovingly as “Mongo”, Scott was a member of both SEAL Team’s 3 and 5 and was an honorary plank owner of SEAL Team 3.

Scott married Macara Monroe in August of 1996 in La Jolla, California. After 21 years of service in the United States Navy Scott retired in 2004 and moved to Northfield, Minnesota with his family.   Following his retirement Scott worked from 2004 to 2009 with the Department of State High Threat Ambassadors Protection Detail in Baghdad, Iraq and Afghanistan.  Most recently he traveled the world providing maritime anti-piracy security.

Scott lived his life to the fullest in every way and loved his family dearly.  He especially cherished the time he spent with his young boys, Mitchell and Jack.  His family wants him to be remembered for the selfless, kind, big hearted, giving soul that he will always be and his true gift to see only the good in others.

Scott is survived by his wife, Macara; his sons, Mitchell Scott and Jack Reilly all of Northfield; his daughters Kayla Neenan of Maryland and Jennifer Smith of Washington.  He is also survived by his parents, Kenneth & Shirley Brachmann of Savage; his biological mother & step-father, Suk Won and Robert Thibdeau of Maryland; his brother, Mark (Lauri) of Blaine; his sisters Kim (Jon) Gambill of Savage, Drew Persinger and Denise Kelly, both of Maryland; his mother-in-law, Terry Monroe of Northfield; his dogs Finn and Coco; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  Scott was preceded in death by his infant nephew Jesse Bowman.

Funeral services will be held Monday December 19th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Northfield, Minnesota at 10:00 A.M. CST; internment with full military honors will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at 1:45 P.M. CST. His family welcomes everyone to come and celebrate his life, or as he would say his “AWESOMENESS!”

Memorials are preferred to UDT Seal Foundation, UNICEF or the Scott Brachmann Benefit Memorial Trust, C/O Wells Fargo Bank, 700 Water St., Northfield, MN 55057.

Arrangements are with Benson & Langehough Funeral Home, Northfield, MN.  www.northfieldfuneral.com

Good Mug

Scotty was a good mug and will be missed by all his brothers in the Teams!  We all knew Scotty as a stand-up guy, always there to help and lighten the load on all of us.  Scotty's character as a true team guy and an outstanding warrior will always be a part of us--he and several others that have passed will never be forgotten.

Great Friend!!

Scott, we were so blessed that Ken and Shirley adopted you and brought you to Prior Lake, thank you.  I too was adopted so we connected and we had this bond throughout our lives.  You have touched every life that you have met through your endless miles of travels.  You lived life to its fullest, you protected our country when we needed you most and you were still there for us at home when we needed someone to chat with.  Thank God we have the technology we have today to keep in touch otherwise we would not have known where you have been since graduation.  Thanks for visiting me and my family when you came through Washington state!  I am thankful we had an opportunity to meet and to share our accomplishments together.  You were a Great Friend to all of us Scotty and you will be deeply missed.  I have grieved already and today I am going to go out and celebrate for your life!  If anyone else reads this please know that Scotty would rather have us laughing than dwelling on why or what happened.  It is what it is and know he is still protecting all of us from above.  I will always love you brother.

Funeral Arrangements

This is Scott's sister Denise in Maryland. We talked to Mr. Ken and funeral arrangements are going to be Monday December 19, 2011 at 10am. Mr Ken has all the information. There will not be a veiwing per Scott's request.

He was loved by so many and made an impact on so many as well. Thankfully we have Mr. Ken and Mrs. Shirley to celebrate his new life. They adopted him from my mother when he was little. I just thank God that him and my mother were able to keep in contact thanks to Mrs. Shirley and Mr. Ken and that my sister and I got to know him and grew up with my brother. He was always there when we needed him. I miss him dearly.

Scott,

Mom misses you so much as well as us too. Her heart breaks knowing you arent there to call her and laugh at her and tell her to speak english. She has the last voice mail you left her and Im so glad she has that to keep. You were her only son and she will hold on to all the great memories she had with you. I will take care of Kayla and Jennifer and give them the comfort they need. Mitchell and Jack know you loved them as well and you will forever be a hero to them. Please watch over the whole family as well as friends. Give both of your moms, your dad, family and friends comfort as we celebrate your new life on monday.

so much Love with all our hearts

Long lost little Friend(brother)

Scott(Gino),

We only met once after we both came over from Korea together.  I am sadden that we were not able to be closer even though we lived so close to each other for 40 some years.  I will cherish the short time we had together a few years back when my family and my biological mom(Chang Washington) came to visit you in Northfield.  I will cherish that short time we had.  My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this trying time, and let it be know I will celebrate your life not in sadness but with Laughter and Joy!  Take care my Korean brother.

Leader of men

MONGO, was a good guy, and a even better leader. He taught me so much in such a short time. I had the opportunity to work with him in Iraq for BW. What a class act in and out of combat. He will be missed~!

Im glad we had a chance to become freinds.

Fellow SEAL

Mongo,

Appreciated the good times when things were tough, and the great times when things were impossible. Never one to shirk a mission or tough task, always the life of the party. Always there when someone needed backup, ready to rumble to defend the weak.

Always still in the fight. No higher praise exists.

Take your position outside the circle of life now, but the circle will expand to engulf you again.

Fellow SEAL

Always still in the fight,no higher praise exists.

Take your position outside the circle of life now, but the circle will expand to engulf you again.

You have made an impact, rest in peace.

My Bestest of Friends Who became my Brother.......

Scott, Scotty, Mongo, OddJob, The Legend, were some of the names I knew you by, but the biggest that I was proud to call you was: my Brother... Other than some non-rewarding Bodyguard gigs, I never had the distinct Honor to Operate with you in the Field or Dive with you in the Deep Blue... You have Touch my Life in such a deep way... I will miss you as much as I miss my Dad...

I L O V E you and miss you soooo Very Much my Bratha! You were a Corner Stone in the SEAL TEAM Community and a Pillar to the BW family and now You are the Foundation in HEAVEN. More important to me, you were my "Bestest" Friend in the Whole World!!!!!!!!!!!!!! , GOD is truly Bless to have you next to him to continue on your Quest to FIGHT Evil.... "Strength and HONOR"... GOD Speed....
