Michelle Jennifer Wirth, the daughter of Donald and Julie (Kenison) Wirth, was born on June 22, 1974 in Edina, Minnesota.  She attended Apply Valley High School and graduated with the class of 1992.  After graduating from high school, she continued her education at Iowa State University, graduating in 1996 with a degree in Communications.  On September 24, 1999, Michelle was united in marriage to Brent Holmes at the Murphy-Hanrehan Park in Savage.  On August 30, 2005 they were blessed by the birth of their son, Evan.  Michelle obtained her Yoga Teaching Certification in 2009 and she became a certified and accomplished Yoga Practitioner and a lover of the practice.  Michelle pursued life with passion.  She loved her family, being a mom to Evan, and her hundreds of friends and their children.  Michelle was amazing in so many ways and a gift to all.  We could all learn a lot about how to live and what’s important by being near her and paying attention to what she did and said and how she thought.  Michelle knew exactly who she was and what she valued.  She loved to have fun. Michelle lived life flat out as fast as she could go, always interacting with friends.  She always ensured that Evan was involved and connected and knew how to make and maintain friendships.  Michelle lived life doing a lot of what she loved and liked.  She started the tradition with Evan of making sure that people were not only loved, but liked for who they were.  Each morning she and Evan would say goodbye to Daddy from the front porch with a pronouncement of their love and like for daddy.  “daddy we love and like you” … over and over again until daddy was out of site.  What a wonderful legacy to leave a child.

She was a woman that loved spending time in nature, especially with her horses and dogs. – Michelle and Brent met while riding horses and Michelle continued that passion throughout her life.  Anyone who knew Michelle knew instantly that Jack and Tenison were not only dogs, but they were full fledged members of the family.  She was a woman of non-violence and non-harming, a vegetarian and was a consistent recycler and composter.

She proactively strived to influence those who came in contact with her to adhere to principals of peace and personal responsibility to care for the planet and its creatures.  She was a devotee of Jane Goodall and intended to volunteer in Jane’s work in Africa.  She enjoyed traveling with her family.

She is survived by her husband Brent and their son Evan of Northfield and a loving extended family and a life’s worth of amazing friends.

Arrangements are with the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home of Northfield.

Our Deepest Sympathy

Brent-

You and Evan are so much in our prayers and we can't begin to express our heartfelt loss.  We are thankful for the time that we were able to share Michelle and are comforted in knowing that this is not the end of the story.  A Child of God lives on and we will be reunited once more.  Your friends and family are here for you as you mourn and question.  Know that you and Evan are loved!!!

In Him who is able to carry, strengthen and love us at our weakest

Love,

Jeff, Missi, Gabby and Anna Greenlee

Brent,

My heart breaks for you and Evan, and for all of her family.  I was privileged to know Michell through yoga (like so many others) and she was always an inspiration to me with her loving, generous, kind nature.  She spoke with me often about Evan and how much joy she experienced with him.  There was never a time that I heard her complain or speak in a critical or negative way about other people - she was always an example of loving acceptance.  And while I know that she continues to be at peace, I also know how tremendously much she will be missed.  Holding you in the love that Michelle lived,  Marlene McEwan

Brent and Evan,

Michelle was an awesome Yoga Teacher and friend.  I am so sad to hear this news.  Please take care and know she loved you and Evan so very, very much.  She talked about you both all the time. She will be misse by many.

It's been many years since we've seen one another, going back to the days of Your Haven Resort.  However through the years, I have often looked back at those summers of my youth and have thought of Michelle fondly.  I can remember wading out in the water in front of your dock and holding onto Michelle as she tried to learn how to waterski.  It seems like only yesterday.  I can't express how deeply saddened I am at having learned of the loss of Michelle. I will always hold the memories I have of those summers growing up at the lake, which Michelle was a large part of, very dear.  It was comforting to read how Michelle had found love with Brent and lived her life true to her beliefs and was able to know the love of having a child in Evan.  I have always held a special place for Michelle in my heart, despite the passing of the years, and I wanted to let you know how truly sorry myself and my family are for your loss.  You are in our thoughts and prayers.  With love, Ray Peters and family

My thoughts and prayers are

My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.  Michelle was a Tri-Delt sister of mine at Iowa State.  My heart breaks for the short time that Evan got to have his mommy, I have 3 young boys so this makes me realize that life can be too short and that you have to live each day to the fullest!   I hope that Evan knows that he has one very special "Angel" helping him along the way.   My deepest sympathy to all.

God Bless,

Laurie Jenness

Our Prayers are With You...

I attended AVHS with Shelly and was saddened by the news of her death.

To Shelly's family, please remember that God does not give you what you can handle, but instead helps you handle what you are given.
