Lloyd Allen Swartwoudt was born October 6, 1917, on the family farm in Bridgewater Township, Rice County, Minnesota, to Allen and Marie (Anderson) Swartwoudt. He was baptized and confirmed at Little Prairie Methodist Church and attended Little Prairie School. After his education he farmed with his father. He married Louise H. Dodes on February 27, 1938. After marriage they rented and then bought a farm in Bridgewater Township and farmed together until retiring in 1979. Louise passed away on August 10, 1992. Lloyd remained on the farm until moving to Northfield on September 1, 2008.

Lloyd was a 65 year member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Northfield, a former member of the Central Valley Livestock Association and the Tri-Lakes Sportsman Club, and a member of the Northfield Senior Center. He enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, fishing and traveling. He was friendly, outgoing, loyal, loving, and an amazing man. He will be greatly missed.

 

Survivors include his son David of Dundas; his daughter-in-law, Marilyn Swartwoudt of Livermore, California; 6 grandchildren and their spouses: Herbert Jr. and Ronitta Swartwoudt, Sherry and Danny Nigg, Laurie Turner, Brett and Jackie Swartwoudt, Tabitha and Steve Whitehill, Allen and Andrea Swartwoudt; 8 great-grandchildren: Grant, Jessica, Seth, Stephen, Carissa, Daniel, Amanda and Dalton; his longtime companion, Marian Jandro of Northfield; 2 sisters: Viola Hustead of Sun City, Arizona, Audrey (Vic) Armstrong of Seattle; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; his sons: Herbert and Robert; his grandson, Russell; his daughter-in-law, Edna Dickison; and his parents.

Lloyd passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 8, 2009, at the Northfield Hospital, at the age of 92.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at the Chapel of the Northfield Retirement Community with Rev. Steve Delzer and Rev. Diane Goulson officiating. Music will be provided by Rev. Diane Goulson and Lois Burgoyne. Interment will be in Groveland Cemetery, Dundas. Casket bearers will be Earl Graham Jr., Jerry Schultz, Jim Schultz, Allen Swartwoudt, Brett Swartwoudt and Herb Swartwoudt Jr. Visitation will be 3-7PM Monday, December 14, 2009, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the Retirement Center Chapel on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.

Memorials are preferred to the Northfield Retirement Center or Boston Medical Center for Amyloidosis Research.

Arrangements are with the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home.
