Edgar Leonard Wolfe, age 93 of Northfield, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, January 11, 2010, at the Northfield Care Center.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 66 years, Alice; his daughter, Kay Wolfe and husband Gary Opperman of Minneapolis; his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Gail Wolfe of St. Paul; 3 grandchildren: Noah (Sandy) Wolfe of Andover, Nana (Chris) Wolfe-Hill of Greensboro, North Carolina; Micah Wolfe of San Francisco; 2 great-grandsons, Sam and Luke; 2 brothers: Ray (Ollie) of Maynard, Max of Bemidji; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mildred Schmitt and his brother Lee.

Ed was born October 14, 1916, in Maynard, Iowa, to Frederick and Amelia (Wagner) Wolfe. He was raised on the family farm, graduated from Maynard High School in 1934, and received his bachelors degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He joined the US Navy on July 15, 1941. While stationed in Florida, he married Alice Westphal at the Pensacola Naval Base. After marriage they lived in Florida and Virginia, prior to his honorable discharge on November 16, 1945.  He continued his service in the Navy Reserve for over 20 years. Ed and Alice returned to Minnesota and lived a short time in Long Prairie until moving to Bemidji where he worked as a school teacher. In 1951, they moved to Miles City, Montana, where he worked in the hardware business. In 1962, they moved to Golden Valley where Ed continued work in the hardware business. In 1966, he joined the Sherwin Williams Paint Company and worked in sales and management until retiring in 1982. In 1990, Ed and Alice moved to a golf community in Bella Vista, Arkansas. Ed was always active in the church congregations where they lived, teaching adult education, serving on boards, and singing in the choir. He had a love of golf, and was a member of numerous golf associations and played in their leagues. He was also an avid bird watcher and woodworker.  He had a great sense of humor, always ready with a witty comment and a twinkle in his eye.
