Delores Margaret Balfe Weed was born February 6, 1925, in Kilkenny, Minnesota, to Michael and Hattie (Born) Balfe.  She attended St. Canice Parochial School and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1943.   She married Willis “Bill” Weed on October 25, 1947, and in 1948, they moved to Northfield.  They later divorced.  In 1968, Delores began working at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church and remained there until retiring in 1997.  Her service and dedication to St. Dominic was recognized on July 29, 1997, when Pope John Paul II awarded her the “Medal of the Majestic Cross”.  

DW was a member of the Church of St. Dominic and enjoyed playing cards, senior citizen trips, and other travels including four trips to Ireland.  She was proud of her family, her Irish heritage, and found joy in all things Irish.  She was kind, giving, generous with her time and always put others first.  

Survivors include her daughter, Becky and husband Francis “Punk” Minnick of Faribault:  her sons:  Steven and wife Kathy of Northfield, Daniel and wife Robyn of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, James and wife Darci of Rochester; 6 grandchildren: Stacey and Jon Minnick, Amy McKeever, Ryan, Darin and Brooke Weed; her great-grandchildren: Sophia and baby Weed;   her sister:  Darlene (Kenny) Barber of Waterville; her brother: Gordon (Jacqui) Balfe of Minneapolis, 2 sisters-in-law:  Sharon Balfe (Dewey) of Kilkenny, Sharon Balfe (Billy) of Inver Grove Heights; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Jana Minnick, her parents, her sister Anna Marie King, and her brothers Dewey and Billy Balfe.

Delores passed away with her family by her side on  Monday morning, January 23, 2012, the Reflections Care Suites on the Three Links Campus, at the age of 86.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Friday, January 27, 2012, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield with Fr. Dennis Dempsey officiating.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Kilkenny.  Casket bearers will be Jon Minnick, Stacey Minnick, Amy McKeever, Brook Weed, Darin Weed and Ryan Weed.  Honorary casket bearers will be Jana Minnick+, Sophia Weed and baby Weed.  Visitation will be 4-7PM Thursday, January 26, 2012, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue at the church on Friday one hour prior to the funeral.
