Bette Kaminska
Bette Kaminska, 91, died at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester, Minnesota, on Friday, August 20, 2010 after a 4 year battle with dementia.
Bette Lou Kaminska was born on April 13, 1919 in Blissfield, Michigan, the daughter of Alice and Frank Miller. She married Paul Kaminska in 1939. They had three daughters. In 1952, Bette divorced Paul and raised her three daughters on her own. Bette lived and worked in Kansas City, Missouri until she retired and moved to Northfield, to be near her youngest daughter and three granddaughters. During her years in Northfield she became well known in the quilting community and worked part time at Evenson’s Hallmark until her mid 80s.
Bette’s passion in life was sewing and especially quilting. She was a member of the Northfield Quilt Club and quilted every Wednesday with a small group of women including her daughter. She made her first quilt in 1967 for her first granddaughter but didn’t become passionate about quilting until 1976. She made hundreds of quilts over the years and quilted until her late 80s. Her quilting passion lives on in her daughters.
