Adeline Summers
Adeline Summers, age 94 of Northfield, died peacefully at the Northfield Care Center on February 9, 2010.
Adeline Betty Summers was born August 4, 1915, on the family farm in Wheatland Township, Rice County, Minnesota, to John and Mary (Kadrlik) Cecka. She was baptized at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery and attended country school and Immaculate Conception Parochial School in Lonsdale. She married Paul Summers on May 8, 1938, in Northfield. After marriage they lived in Northfield. Over the years Adeline worked as a house keeper at Carleton College, St. Olaf College, the Northfield Hospital, and in private homes. Paul died on May 22, 1973. After Paul’s death she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law Eileen and Ron where she lived until moving to the Northfield Care Center last year.
Adeline was a longtime member of the Church of St. Dominic where she volunteered her time and was a member of the Rosary Society. She was a former member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed old time music, camping, fishing and playing Bingo. After retirement she enjoyed the many trips she took on Amtrak with her friend Martha. Adeline was caring, giving and selfless. She always had a sweet smile, and her greatest enjoyment came from her family, grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Ron Wermerskirchen of Northfield; her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Susan Summers of Hutto, Texas; 7 grandchildren: Roger (Kimberly) Freiermuth, Dan (Sonja) Freiermuth, Jeff Freiermuth, Kim (Billy) Norton, Michelle (Sean) Wermerskirchen Donovan, Jamie Summers, Stephanie Summers (David Hand); her step-grandson, Matthew McCorkell; 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her son, Roger; her brother, John Cecka; and her sisters: Anna Malecha, Mary Moravec and Emma Kennedy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM Saturday, February 13, 2010, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield with Fr. Dennis Dempsey officiating. Music will be provided by Marlys Mouser & Barb Klinkhammer. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Northfield. Casket bearers will be Roger Freiermuth, Dan Freiermuth, Jeff Freiermuth, Kim Norton, Michelle Wermerskirchen Donovan, Jamie Summers and Stephanie Summers Visitation will be at the church on Saturday being at 9AM.
