Submitted by Andy Langehough on Sun, 02/28/2010 - 11:36amEdwin Joseph Budin was born August 13, 1924, on the farm in Wheatland Township, Rice County, Minnesota, to Thomas and Bessie (Simon) Budin. He was baptized at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Vesili, confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lonsdale, and attended Wheatland Country School, IC School in Lonsdale and Northfield schools. After his education he farmed with his father on the farm in Greenvale Township that they had moved to in 1937. In May 1945, he joined the US Army - serving in Italy.
DuWayne Zimmerman

He attended school in Dennison and Northfield and was confirmed at the Northfield Moravin Church. After his education he worked as a farmhand for area farmers. He married Viola Sprute on June 1, 1957, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Farmington. After marriage they lived in various area communities and DuWayne farmed with Richard Koester for 20 years. Submitted by Andy Langehough on Mon, 02/22/2010 - 6:10pmMaxine Harriet Hubbard was born April 7, 1925, on a farm owned by Mr. Pye in Northfield Township, Rice County, Minnesota, to John and Mary (Riddle) Marshall. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church and graduated from Northfield High School in 1943. She married James C. Hubbard on November 29, 1943, at her parent’s home in Northfield. After marriage she lived in Austin and worked at the First National Bank. In 1944, she moved to Bremerton, Washington, while Jim served in the US Navy.
Carol Boich
Submitted by Andy Langehough on Sun, 02/21/2010 - 7:30pmCarol Ann Boich entered her new home in heaven on February 21, 2010 at the age of 78. She was born September 8, 1931, in Peoria, Illinois, to Ernest and Vera (Binkele) Klaus.
Funeral Services will be held in the chapel at Northfield Care Center where Carol had been a resident for the past year. Her Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, February 25 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Caston, her son-in-law, officiating. There will be a private burial at a later date at Fort Snelling Cemetery in Minneapolis.
David Markey

He was baptized and attended school at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He attended Alpena High School and after his education began working heavy construction. He married Pam Broers on September 22, 1993, in Alpena, and together had two sons. They later divorced. David lived in various communities in Michigan until moving to Northfield in 2003. He had been working as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of Local #49.
John Hertogs
Submitted by Andy Langehough on Thu, 02/18/2010 - 1:19pmJohn Edward Hertogs was born July 26, 1931, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Clarence and Helen (Quist) Hertogs. He graduated from Washburn High School in 1949 and on August 1, 1950, joined the US Marine Corps. He served in Korea, and following his honorable discharge on February 15, 1952, returned to Minneapolis. John married Marilyn Louise Conant on June 6, 1953, at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. In 1962, his work took them to Toronto, Ontario, where they raised their family.

He graduated form Cloquet High School in 1969 and attended Duluth VoTech. He married Carol Atwood on December 16, 1972, in Cloquet. After marriage they lived in Cloquet/Carlton area, and Ralph worked for PreFab Transit. In 1989, they moved to Randolph and shortly after Ralph went to work for Taylor Truck Lines. In the late 1990's, he went to work for Admiral Merchants Motor Freight.
Paul Thompson

He was raised in Richfield and graduated from Richfield High School in 1969. He was drafted into the US Army in the Fall of 1969 and was stationed in Korea. Following his honorable discharge in 1971, he returned to the Twin Cities. He lived primarily in South Minneapolis and Richfield and worked as an installer in the construction trade. Most recently he lived in Burnsville and worked for Custom Expressions, Inc.

In 1952, he graduated from Kauffman High School in Rochester. Wes was very musically talented and during and after High School played the trumpet in his own band. After his education he worked in Rochester and for a short time in Minneapolis. In 1947, Wes partnered with his father and they bought a farm in Wisconsin. After selling the farm a few years later, he moved to Hastings.

She was baptized in Northwood and at the age of 7 moved with her family to Kalispell, Montana. She was confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Kalispell and graduated from Flathead County High School in 1929. She received her Bachelor of History degree from St. Olaf College in 1933. Following her education she returned to Montana and taught in the elementary school in Kalispell.
